About the Artist

I was the little girl always drawing horses in the margins of my schoolbooks. Being extremely shy and introverted, I found both horses and creative pursuits to be the perfect escape. Decades later I guess I am still that little girl. After 20 years working in social services I made the decision mid-pandemic to pursue my combined passions of art and nature full time. After 16 years on our little horse farm in Cobden, Ontario we renovated a motorhome, sold everything and headed west. We eventually landed in a little log cabin at the foot of the Coast Mountains in Tatla Lake, British Columbia. My reclusive heart is happy.

I work in a variety of mediums including charcoal, coloured pencil and pastel, but find I am drawn to oil paint the most these days. My art falls somewhere between realism and traditional. Regardless of the medium, I work in many, many layers with meticulous attention to detail. My focus and inspiration began with horses. I get lost in the whorls and cowlicks, or the shine on a buckle. I’m fascinated by capturing the connection between the riders hands and the bit, the expression of a horse in work, and the way the light and shadows play on a coat. My aim is to have my work capture the horse's essence, and a bit of the magic that makes us so passionate about them.

For the past year I have been inspired to branch out and paint other wildlife, landscapes and even the odd human portrait. I work from photographs, and am fortunate that my husband happens to be a professional photographer. I am also blessed to live in one of the last true wild places where inspiration is always around me.
